Hello There! I am Theresa Destrebecq.

I was a teacher, turned school leader, turned empowerment educator, mentor, coach, cheerleader, and gentle ass-kicker.

My mission is to inspire YOU to reconnect to yourself, so that you can better reconnect with the world around you. Often we need to go down into the recesses of our mind,  clean up some cobwebs and sort through some junk, but once we get back to the surface it's all about stepping into possibility and power.

My story...

When I was in my early 30s, I was living a pretty great life on the outside. Great house, great husband, great job, great friends. But on the inside, it was a whole other story. I felt miserable and powerless. I hated my boss, and I assume that she hated me. We were engaged in an unspoken power struggle.

I came home from work every day complaining and bitching about her to whoever would listen. Do I leave because of her? Do I stay just to spite her?

I knew that things were bad, and I was trying to rectify the situation with books, meditation classes, and a therapist, yet NONE of it was working.

One day my boss's boss called me in for a chat. It was a chat to subtly, and not-so-subtly invite me to resign. I foresaw this situation happening, and was "trying" to do something about it, but sometimes it takes falling on your face to fully understand.

I spent a long time wallowing in self-pity, while also trying to figure out my next step. It wasn't just about a job--it was about my sense of self. I had spent a lifetime associating my accomplishments and other people's praise with my worth. Now that I was unemployed with no title, no salary, despite a wall of diplomas, I was totally lost and felt like a complete LOSER.

Eventually, I sought out a coach who challenged me to take responsibility for the situation. She challenged me to stop blaming my boss, and get out from my comfortable role of victim. Our work together catapulted me into numerous other self-development opportunities, which have continued to remove my blinders and help me get out of my own way. That is one thing that self-help books and meditation weren't doing--they weren't helping me to see what I couldn't see, and they definitely weren't holding me accountable.

This personal work didn't just change my work situation, it changed my whole life and every single one of my relationships, most importantly the one with myself.  What I have since learned is that how you are in one area of your life, is most likely how you are in ALL areas of your life.

Now, my passion lies in teaching and coaching you to transform your life and your relationships. You have so much more power and potential than you even realize. Are you squandering it or giving it away?

Whether you choose to become a reader in my book circle, or you reach out to me for private or group coaching, please know that I won't listen to your BS and excuses. I won't allow you to linger in your loss and your self-pity, nor I am here to save you--only you can do that. I am here to shine a flashlight when needed, hold your hand through the rough patches, and teach you things you didn't learn in traditional school.

I am a certified coach through Vera Whole Health, which is accredited by the International Coaching Federation. I also love to learn, and will never stop. If you chose to work with me, you will find that I am always reading or taking e-courses from other coaches and professionals, so that I can bring you the very best (and treat myself to their wisdom as well.)

My traditional education includes both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Boston College, and various certifications in teaching and leadership from the University of Washington. I am also a graduate of the Curriculum for Living Program from Landmark Education, and have studied with Yoram Mosenzon, Certified Non-Violent Communication Trainer.

You will learn that I live a pretty ordinary, yet extraordinary life. When I am not working, I am a mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister, etc. You can also find me meditating, swallowed up in a good book, running through the woods behind my house, saluting the rising of the sun from my yoga mat, or behind the stove cooking something yummy. I love to laugh until my stomach hurts, and prefer to be around people who can make me laugh that hard.
